About Tonkinson Art Masters
Welcome to the wonderful world of oil painting
Tonkinson Art Masters was founded in 1981 by South African-born artist Leone Tonkinson. Today known as “TAM – School of oil painting” is registered with the Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands since 2008, TAM Art School continues to proudly introduce all levels of artists into the wonderful world of oil painting techniques.
Tonkinson Art Masters is designed with the vision to give artists of all levels a good and solid foundation in the basics of art making.
My goal is to work with you as an artist to develop a tailor-made set of oil painting skills with error-free guidelines and a good and professional foundation in both traditional and contemporary oil painting techniques.
Together we develop art techniques with the aim of creating a unique style and signature for you.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint in oils, make an oil painting study after an Old/New Master, or just relax while painting your own ideas. TAM art school is especially designed to cater for the oil painting need of the absolute Novice, the Intermediate as well as the Professional Artist.

Learn about oil painting by choosing your own projects and become a master painter in fur, discover the goldern rules of art making, have fun with fail-proof color mixing recipes, be amazed by easy perspective, understand the fundamentals of art making or just brush-up on your glazing techniques.
Artists Progress At Their Own Pace
In addition, we offer assignments and demonstration lessons for painting objects like, metals, glass, crystal, animal eyes, fruit and even flowers and amongst others the unforgettable oil painting techniques of the Old Masters as well as our Contemporary Masters of today.

In the workshops you will receive downloadable image references from the Demo lesson and Assignment catalogue.
Assignments and Demo Lessons are projects designed specifically for artists of all skill levels to master a handful of techniques.
Choose from a large collection of demo lessons to help you master certain techniques you are interested in: e.g. hair, eyes, fruit, crystal, silver, glass, reflections, shadows, color mixing, perspective, etc. to name a few to name a few.
Oil painting requires an understanding of your mediums and their carriers. Demo lessons can also consist of short, quick exercises in between to help you experiment with different mediums, carriers and/or techniques.
Commands are also available to help you practice tone values, gaining a better understanding of the fundamentals of art making.
Leone has assignments for every subject in your oil painting workshops. If you have your own drawings, subjects and themes, we support you with that too. The course is completely flexible in that regard.
Our goal is to provide you with the necessary knowledge and know-how, so that you can be independent and independent. Assignments are there when you need them, along with unlimited personal support from Leone.
Our Process
How TAM Works
TAM Art School hosts 4, 7, 14 & 30 sets of 3-hour workshops in the introduction to oil painting techniques at Studio locations in the Netherlands. Our goal is to provide you with the necessary knowledge and know how, so that you can tap into your creative energy while focusing on developing your personal signature as an independent artist.
